 Reproduction of an 1846 Hand-Painted Map of Texas

Annexed by the United States in 1845, Texas officially installed its state government in the year this map was made, 1846. The annexation helped precipitate the Mexican-American War.
At the time the original of this map was created, Texas extended north into Colorado and Wyoming (although the northernmost portion of the state was cropped from the engraving from which these maps were made). The western border was the Rio Grande. The state was sparsely populated with just under 5,000 people living in Houston with a bout 7,000 living in the most populous city, Galveston.
Towns, cities, roads and geographic features are noted. The Santa Fe Trail "Caravan Route..." is clearly marked as are the various "Indian Nations."
We have meticulously reproduced this piece to match the color and detail of the original. Each piece is individually printed using the same method used to create limited edition art. We use 100% cotton rag, fine art paper. This heavy textured paper is made in one of the oldest paper mills in England. Created using a mold process it closely resembles hand laid paper. In may respects these reproductions are more attractive than the original antique maps.

Due to the INCREDIBLY high shipping prices charged for OVERSIZE shipping, shipping charges may be higher than quoted for items that measure more than a total of 70" (matted height + width).
